Installation guide
From download to your first exam: install CBT System on one server computer, connect your student computers and activate your licence.
Before you start
- One server computer running Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Use a dedicated computer with an SSD, and avoid running other heavy programs on it during exams.
- The server and all student computers on the same network (cable or Wi-Fi). Internet is not needed during exams.
- A web browser on each student computer.
- Administrator rights on the server computer for the installation.
Memory (RAM) of the server computer
| Computers writing at the same time | Server RAM |
|---|---|
| 1 to 70 | 8 GB |
| 75 to 200 | 16 GB |
| Above 200, up to 500 | 32 GB |
Download and install on the server
- Go to the Download page and download the installer on the server computer.
- Run the installer and follow the screens. Choose Yes if Windows asks to allow the program to make changes.
- If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. Windows shows this for every new program until it is widely used.
- When the installation finishes, start CBT System from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.
Open the Setup page
- On the server computer, open a web browser and go to
http://localhost:5000. - The first time, you are taken to the Setup page.

http://192.168.1.10:5000/StudentLogin, using your own server address. - Save that address as a bookmark, or set it as the browser's home page, so students find it easily.
Prepare your first exam

- Add your Students one by one, or upload them from a spreadsheet.
- Add Questions: type them in, or upload from Word, Excel or CSV.
- Create the Exam (class, subject, duration) and switch it active when it is time to start.
- Open the Live Monitor during the exam to watch progress and help students. Afterwards, open Reports.
Troubleshooting
A student computer cannot open the page
Check that the computer is on the same network as the server and that the address is typed exactly, with :5000 at the end. On the server, open Windows Defender Firewall and allow inbound connections on port 5000 for private networks. Then try again.
The licence is refused: "different computer"
The licence was made for another Computer code. Check the code on your Setup page and write to us with the code you see. We will help you get the right licence.
The licence is refused as expired
The licence has ended. Buy a new one from the price list and upload the new file on the Setup page.
The date and time warning
CBT System checks that the computer's clock is correct, so a licence cannot be stretched by changing the date. Set the correct date and time in Windows, then try again.
I lost my licence file
Use Lost licence, enter the email you paid with, and we will send it again.
