CBT software for universities and large exam centres

Large intakes break ordinary CBT tools. Chuvor CBT runs on your own servers, supports up to 500 computers writing at the same time, and covers as many halls as your campus has.

Why big exams break ordinary CBT tools

Many CBT programs work well in a classroom of thirty and struggle in a hall of three hundred. Some cap how many candidates can write together, some slow down as the hall fills, and others depend on a steady internet connection that a busy campus cannot always promise on exam day.

Chuvor CBT takes the exam off the internet and onto your own server. Candidates reach it over your campus network with a web browser, so a weak signal or a data bundle can no longer decide whether an exam happens.

Built for scale: up to 500 candidates at once

Chuvor CBT supports up to 500 computers writing at the same time. You match the server to the size of your hall, so you only pay for the capacity you use.

  • Up to 70 computers: a server with 8 GB of memory.
  • 75 to 200 computers: a server with 16 GB of memory.
  • Above 200 and up to 500 computers: a server with 32 GB of memory.
  • Use a dedicated server computer with an SSD, Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), and a good wired network between the server and the halls.

Many halls, two ways to set it up

All halls on one campus server. Connect every hall to the same campus network and point them at one server. One live monitor then shows all candidates, and you can filter by class, status or name.

A licensed server for each hall or campus. Give each hall, faculty or campus its own server and its own licence. Each one works on its own, so a problem in one hall never holds up another, and the halls do not need to be on the same network. Each server keeps its own records, so export the results as CSV and combine them for the whole institution.

Two ways to cover a university with Chuvor CBT: all exam halls on one campus server, or a separately licensed server for each hall or campus
Two ways to cover many halls: one campus server for all of them, or a licensed server for each hall.

What makes a large exam day run smoothly

  • Fast set-up. Upload students from a spreadsheet and questions from Word, Excel or CSV, instead of typing them one by one.
  • Fair for every candidate. Each candidate gets their own question order and answer order, and reading passages keep their questions together.
  • Identity checks. The candidate's photo and registration number appear large on the exam screen, so invigilators can confirm each person at a glance.
  • Live control. The live monitor shows each candidate's status, answers so far, live score and time left, with alerts for tab switching, copying and pasting. Invigilators can reset, continue or end an exam.
  • Roles for your team. A main administrator, plus sub-administrators who each get only the permissions you tick, such as reports or marking.
  • Nothing left hanging. When time is up, unfinished attempts are closed and graded from the saved answers.

Results you can act on

Objective questions are marked as soon as a candidate finishes. Theory answers are marked in a workspace by question or by candidate, with suggested marks you can review, and a totals sheet for every candidate. Then print or export ranking lists with photos, class summaries, subject performance, question analysis, individual student history and violation reports.

Universities use computer-based testing for semester exams, continuous assessment, entrance screening and practice tests.

Licensing for institutions

You buy a licence for the number of computers and the period you need, by the week, month or year, with no fee per candidate. Sizes up to 200 computers are on the price list and can be bought online. For more than 200 computers, a one-off buyout, or a quotation covering several halls or campuses, write to us and we will prepare it.

Need the hall itself prepared? Chuvor International also designs and installs CBT exam halls with structured cabling and Gigabit switches. See chuvorint.com.

Frequently asked questions

Can CBT software handle 500 candidates at the same time?

Chuvor CBT supports up to 500 computers writing at the same time when it is installed on a suitable server, with 32 GB of memory for more than 200 computers.

Can we run exams in several halls?

Yes. Connect all halls to one campus network and one server, or give each hall or campus its own server and licence so each works independently.

Do the halls need internet?

No. Exams run entirely inside your own network. Internet is only needed on the day you buy, to pay and download your licence file.

Is there one dashboard for several servers?

Each server keeps its own records and live monitor. When you use more than one server, export the results from each as CSV and combine them for the whole institution.

How do we buy for a whole university?

Sizes up to 200 computers can be bought online from the price list. For larger sizes, several halls or campuses, or a one-off buyout, write to us and we will prepare a quotation.
