How it works

Offline CBT software that runs on your own school network

Offline CBT software runs the whole exam inside your school. There is no dependence on internet during the exam, so a weak signal or an empty data bundle cannot stop your students.

What "offline" means

In an offline CBT set-up, one computer in your school acts as the exam server. It holds the program, the questions and the students' answers. Every other computer connects to it over your local network, by cable or Wi-Fi, using only a web browser. The exam never travels over the internet.

With Chuvor CBT, internet is needed only on the day you buy: to pay online and download your licence file. After that, exams run entirely on your own network.

Why schools choose offline CBT

  • Exams do not stop when the internet does. Nothing in the exam depends on a link outside your building.
  • No data costs for students or for the school during exams.
  • Your data stays with you. Questions, answers and results are kept on your own server computer.
  • Fast. Questions load over your own network, not from a distant server.
  • Easy to organise. Use any computer room, laptops, tablets or phones that can join your network.

Built to keep every answer

Answers are saved as students work, and the exam screen shows an "All answers saved" indicator. Chuvor CBT supports up to 500 computers writing at the same time, and it has built-in backup and restore, so you can keep a copy of your data and recover it if you ever need to.

What you need

Step-by-step instructions are in the installation guide.

  • A server computer running Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). A dedicated computer with an SSD works best.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Express (free). Chuvor CBT keeps all its data in it.
  • A local network that connects the server and the student computers.
  • A web browser on each student computer.
  • Server memory of 8 GB for up to 70 computers, 16 GB for 75 to 200, and 32 GB above 200.

Security without internet

Chuvor CBT detects and records tab switching, copying, pasting and back-button use, and can submit an exam automatically after repeated violations. A licence is made for one server computer and cannot be moved to another, and changing the computer's clock does not extend it.
